Tournament favourites Ivory Coast crashed out in the most dramatic fashion, losing after extra-time to a wonderfully expansive Algeria. Salomon Kalou gave the Elephants a fourth minute lead. And Karim Matmour equalised with a fine half-volley on 40 minutes. Kader Keita’s left-foot thunderbolt on 89 minutes looked like Cote D’Ivoire’s winner and the goal of the tournament. But Majid Bougherra took the game to extra-time with a stoppage time header. Hameur Bouazza’s 92nd minute header sent Algeria through, and they missed numerous chances to seal a more convincing win in the African Nations Cup.
