Chelsea 6-0 Manchester CityChelsea moved into the top four for the first time this season as they thrashed Manchester City 6-0 in their Premiership match on Saturday.
Didier Drogba scored two goals after Michael Essien had given Chelsea the lead before Joe Cole, Salomon Kalou and Andriy Shevchenko completed the rout. City were left stunned at the attacking display shown by their opponents and at no point of the match looked to have any chance of getting back into it.
Ironically it was City who started the game strongly with two good chances in the first 10 minutes, but Petr Cech was on hand to deny Stephen Ireland and Georgios Samaras. However the hosts soon settled into a rhythm and took the lead in the 16th minute when a good build up saw Frank Lampard pass the ball into the path of Essien who made no mistake in smashing the ball into the net from outside the area.
Drogba missed two good chances in front of goal but made amends 15 minutes before half time when Lampard drove forward a brilliant through ball, splitting the City defense to reach the Ivorian striker who slotted the ball past a helpless Joe Hart.
Drogba got his second 10 minutes into the second half as his flick on found Lampard inside the penalty area and though his shot was saved brilliantly by Hart, the rebound fell straight to Drogba who was left with a simple finish from close range.
Joe Cole joined the party three minutes later with a swift counter attack to score Chelsea's fourth goal of the match. Kalou made it 5-0 in the 75th minute when he latched on to Essien's superb pass before coolly driving the ball past Hart. Shevchenko got his first league goal of the season seconds before full time to complete the demolition. Tags: Chelsea, Manchester City, Premiership, Michael Essien, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole Posted: |
