Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham HotspurChelsea chalked up their third win in a row with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in their Premiership clash on Saturday.
The hosts took the lead through a long range effort by Juliano Belletti in the 19th minute while Shaun Wright-Phillips put the result beyond Spurs' reach by doubling the lead 10 minutes away from full time.
After a quiet opening few minutes of the game, Chelsea stormed to the lead through Belletti who took possession of the ball near the halfway line and pressed forward. The ex-Barcelona full back made full use of the room provided by the Tottenham defense to smash an unstoppable drive into top corner of the net.
Tottenham pressed forward and came very close to equalizing when Aaron Lennon raced forwards on the right flank and found Malbranque with a perfect cross. However Petr Cech was alert to the danger and managed to block Malbranque's first time volley. The visitors were dominating the possession but were unable to break down the Chelsea defense.
Chelsea were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure in the second half, though Spurs were struggling to create any chances. Avram Grant brought in new signing Nicolas Anelka to replace Claudio Pizarro and the Frenchman very nearly bagged a goal in the opening minutes of his Chelsea career but his shot was saved by Cerny.
Chelsea doubled the lead in the 80th minute through Wright-Phillips as the right winger drove the ball past a helpless Cerny from the edge of the area. Anelka came close to scoring a goal on his debut but his shot smashed against the post before rolling out to safety. Tags: Chelsea, Premiership, Tottenham, Nicolas Anelka Posted: |
