Chelsea 0-0 Blackburn Rovers

Chelsea's poor form in the league continued with a disappointing 0-0 draw against Blackburn Rovers at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

With Didier Drogba out injured and Claudio Pizarro not fully fit for the game, Andriy Shevchenko got his first start of the season but was guilty of wasting too many chances as Chelsea struggled to stamp their authority on their opponents.

A poor start to the game saw both the teams struggle to create any chances and the first real danger on the Blackburn goal came in the 22nd minute when Juliano Belletti's cross from the right found Shevchenko unmarked, but the Ukrainian striker managed to head the ball over the ball from just 8 yards out.

Chelsea slowly started to take control of the match and Brad Friedel had to make a superb save in the 27th minute to deny Michael Essien after Joe Cole had done well to find the midfielder on the edge of the area.

Belletti had a chance to find the breakthrough two minutes later but his shot went straight into the waiting hands of Friedel. Shevchenko had another chance to score a goal after he was released by Essien, but the striker's poor first touch allowed Friedel to cover the shot.

Mourinho tried to change things by bringing on Florent Malouda and Mikel John Obi to replace Shaun Wright-Phillips and Steve Sidwell in the 54th minute and the changes almost provided the break through for Chelsea as Salomon Kalou latched on to Belletti's cross before smashing the ball into the net.

However referee Howard Webb ruled out the effort as offside, leaving Mourinho fuming on the sidelines. Robbie Savage had an attempt on goal in the 76th minute but his shot was saved easily by Petr Cech.

Shevchenko had one last chance to impress Mourinho, but his header in the 84th minute was saved brilliantly by Friedel as Blackburn hung onto the result to go away with a precious point.
