Chelsea put their EPL woes behind them by doling out a seven-goal thrashing to managerless Championship outfit Ipswich Town at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup third round.

Ipswich sacked former Manchester United star Roy Keane as manager last week, and paid the price for disrupted preparations.

A much-changed Chelsea line-up started slowly, but once they did there was no stopping them.

Salomon Kalou opened the scoring on 33 minutes, ensuring Nicolas Anelka’s goalbound shot crossed the line before Ipswich keeper Marton Fulop, who conceded seven at the Bridge last year when playing for Sunderland, could retrieve it.

Daniel Sturridge made it 2-0 in the next attack with a near-post flick and Ipswich defender Carlos Edwards sliced his attempted clearance of Frank Lampard’s left-wing free-kick eight minutes later.

Anelka finished off a one-two with Kalou to finally get on the scoresheet with a low right-foot shot on 49 minutes, Sturridge curled in a fine right-footed effort for goal number five.

And two late Frank Lampard strikes rounded things off, the first a right-foot shot from the edge of the area after a half-cleared corner, the second when he slid Branislav Ivanovic’s low right-wing cross into the net left-footed from close range.
