Chelsea 4-0 PortsmouthChelsea got off to a stunning start under Luiz Felipe Scolari as they decimated FA Cup winners Portsmouth 4-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Joe Cole put the Blues in the lead after 12 minutes while goals from Nicolas Anelka and Frank Lampard ensured that Portsmouth had an almost impossible task of scoring three goals in the second half if they were not to return empty handed. However Harry Redknapp's side failed to pose any serious attacking threat as Deco added the fourth by scoring on his debut a minute from the full time.
It was all Chelsea right from the kick off as Portsmouth were happy to defend in the early stages of the match. However the move backfired as the hosts took the lead in the 12th minute when Cole was played through by Michael Ballack and the England winger gleefully converted his chance from close range.
Anelka doubled the lead in the 26th minute when he headed home Deco's cross with the Portuguese winger having a brilliant first half of his Chelsea career. The match was all but over by 45 minutes when Chelsea were awarded a penalty after Distin handled Cole's cross and Lampard made no mistake from the penalty spot.
Portsmouth struggled to create any real chances in the second half and it was Chelsea who scored a fourth goal in the 89th minute through Deco whose stinging drive managed to fly into the net even though David James had got a hand to it.
