Chelsea 2-0 West Brom
Didier Drogba scored his first goal of the season as Chelsea wrapped up a hard fought 2-0 victory against West Brom on Friday.
Manager Luiz Felipe Scolari was under pressure after his side dropped four points in last two matches and the Chelsea manager decided to pair Nicolas Anelka and Drogba up front. The move paid rich dividends early in the game as Chelsea took the lead in the 3rd minute when Drogba rose high to meet Joe Cole's cross to head the ball past Scott Carson to open his account this season.
Chelsea dominated the possession in the first half but were struggling to break past a stubborn West Brom defense. Ashley Cole went close to doubling the lead midway through the first half but Carson was equal to the challenge to deny the full back.
West Brom's hopes of going into the break with just a goal down were dashed in the 45th minute when Frank Lampard latched on to a long ball, beat Paul Robinson before slotting the ball past Carson to double the lead.
The visitors tried to stage a come back in the second half but were unable to create any real chances. Instead Chelsea should have had scored a third with Drogba, Anelka and Lampard all coming close but were either denied by Carson or failed to hit the target, leaving the hosts with a tame victory in the end.
