Chelsea dropped two more vital EPL points against struggling Everton at Stamford Bridge with another disjointed display undermined by uncertain defending.
The return of talismanic centre-half John Terry failed to calm the Blues’ blues at the back. And with a bit more composure in front of goal, Everton could have taken all three points.
Everton’s Louis Saha tested Chelsea keeper Petr Cech with a low left-foot drive from the edge of the box after only 18 seconds.
John Terry struck the bar in the 26th minute after his first shot from a half-cleared corner was blocked. And Chelsea took a deserved interval lead through Didier Drogba’s 42nd-minute penalty after Nicolas Anelka was upended by Toffees keeper Tim Howard as they raced for an underhit Phil Neville backpass.
Everton were much improved after half-time, with left-back Leighton Baines a constant threat.
His cross on the hour mark was headed against the inside of the post by Jack Rodwell. Seamus Coleman headed another dangerous Baines delivery at Cech moments later.
And Baines created Everton’s 86th-minute equaliser with his run at Chelsea’s defence and far-post cross which was headed back by Tim Cahill for substitute Jermaine Beckford to nod home from close range. Tags: Chelsea, Everton, Stamford Bridge, Didier Drogba, Jermaine Beckford Posted: |
