Chelsea 1-1 BoltonChelsea's hopes of taking the Premiership race to the wire were doused after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bolton on the final day at Stamford Bridge.
For much of the match it appeared that substitute Andriy Shevchenko's goal had given Chelsea the perfect platform to tie with Manchester United for the Premiership title race. However Matthew Taylor scored a late equalizer to put to rest such hopes from Blues fans.
Ali Al Habsi was in fine nick denying both Florent Malouda and Didier Drogba earlier in the game. The match started off in a sedate fashion, but quickly became fast paced before John Terry dislocated his elbow. Petr Cech, Terry and Kevin Davies jumped for a long ball, but the Chelsea keeper appeared to catch his skipper on the knee.
Terry tumbled to the ground and stayed there and it was apparent he was in intense pain. The injury puts him in doubt for the Champions League final in Moscow.
Just after the break, Chelsea almost took the lead but Juliano Belletti's drive was parried by Al Habsi. Malouda was also prevented by the same opponent. Shevchenko finally broke the deadlock on 62 minutes when he latched onto a ball that eluded everyone.
Bolton seemed to wake up after this, but El Hadji Diouf and Gavin McCann saw their efforts blocked off by Cech.
However in the third minute of injury time Bolton scored courtesy a poor clearance from Alex. Taylor latched onto the ball and drove it past a hapless Cech to leave Chelsea two points short of tying with Manchester United.
