Chelsea 0-1 Inter Milan

Chelsea exited the Champions League after being outfought and outthought by former manager Jose Mourinho’s Internazionale at Stamford Bridge.

Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o decided the second leg with a razor-sharp finish from man-of-the-match Wesley Sneijder’s defence-splitting through ball.

The Serie A leaders deserved their victory, having created the three clear chances of the night before the goal.

And Chelsea’s night got worse in the closing stages when Didier Drogba was sent-off for a stamp on Inter midfielder Thiago Motta.

Chances were at a premium in a tight first half, with the best falling to Eto’o who headed off-target after John Terry misjudged a Sisenando Maicon cross.

Chelsea finished the half on top and were only denied by last-ditch defending and the referee’s unwillingness to punish some rough defending in the penalty area.

But they were unable to sustain any momentum after the break and could have fallen behind on a number of occasions.

Goran Pandev and Diego Milito shot wide when well-placed and Thiago Motta headed over from close range as Inter started to dominate.

And Eto’o could have rubbed salt into ten-man Chelsea’s wounds in stoppage-time, only to be denied by a wonderful save by stand-in keeper Ross Turnbull.
