Celtic 2-1 AC Milan

Gordon Strachan and the fans who came to watch Champions League live at Celtic Park saw an incredible victory won in the last minute of the game and in doing so saw their hopes re-kindled of qualifying from group D of the Champions League.

The match itself turned out to be a very close affair with both defences playing well to limit goal scoring chances. The home side were clearly not concerned about playing last season’s winners as they matched the Italian side in terms of creating chances but not until the second half did they open the scoring.

Having been awarded a corner on 62, Paul Hartley found his Captain Stephen McManus on the far post and gave him little to do except to bundle the ball over the line from a few feet out. Celtic Park Cheered long and hard and had just about finished when apparent disaster struck on 68 as referee Merk, much to the surprise of everyone awarded AC Milan a penalty after Naylor was adjudged to have impeded Ambrosini inside the box. Kaka it was who stepped up to bring the Italian side back level and set up a nail biting finale.

Both teams continued to search for a winning goal and on 89 the home crowd were rewarded when the visiting Keeper Dida could only parry a shot from Caldwell into the path of the oncoming Scott McDonald who slotted the ball into the net to earn Celtic the three points.

The match will also be remembered for an incident just after the winning goal was scored as a celebrating Celtic fan ran onto the pitch and made contact with the AC Milan keeper. Celtic will need to wait and see what punishment UEFA impose upon them.
