Burnley 1-2 ChelseaFletcher 50 Anelka 27 Terry 82 Captain John Terry’s header sent Chelsea four points clear at the top of the EPL as the under-fire central defender put his private life worries aside. An unmarked Terry headed home a Frank Lampard corner with eight minutes left, as it looked as if the Clarets were going to withstand the Blues pressure, which began after Steven Fletcher equalised Nicolas Anelka’s first-half effort. Chelsea had the best of the possession and the chances throughout. And they took a 27th minute lead courtesy of a wonderful pitch-length break. Within seconds of goalkeeper Petr Cech’s throw-out, Joe Cole and the increasingly-influential Florent Malouda set up a simple close-range left-footed finish for Anelka. Chelsea were surprisingly thrown out of their stride five minutes into the second half. Fletcher skilfully brought down Robbie Blake’s long ball, shook off the attentions of central defender Alex and curled a precision left-foot shot past Cech at his near-post. For all their territorial dominance, Chelsea fashioned few second-half opportunities although Joe Cole was perhaps a little unfortunate to see his close-range header ruled out for offside. But then came Terry’s winner, which would have put him in the headlines even if he wasn’t guaranteed to make them anyway sealing the points for the Blues against Burnley.
