Brazil 3-1 Ivory Coast Luis Fabiano 25, 50 Drogba 79
Elano 62 Brazil made it two wins out of two to qualify from Group G, after a feisty encounter in Johannesburg’s Soccer City against Ivory Coast. An increasingly confident Brazil were in control throughout. But their star midfielder Kaka was outrageously dismissed late on. Luis Fabiano’s opened the scoring with a frighteningly well-struck right-foot shot which beat Ivorian keeper Boubacar Barry at his near-post. Some deft control, mostly with his arm, and a firm left-foot shot gave him his second goal. And Elano grabbed his second goal of the tournament from Kaka’s pin-point cross before Didier Drogba beat the offside trap to head home Yaya Toure’s pass. But Kaka received two cautions in the last five minutes, the second incorrectly, to tarnish Brazil’s evening. His second caution came when Abdelkader Keita feigned facial injury after an accidental off-the-ball clash. The referee didn’t see the incident but brandished a yellow card after raucous protests from the Ivorians. Tags: Brazil, Ivory Coast, Luis Fabiano, Elano, Didier Drogba, Kaka Posted: |
