Bosnia-Herzegovina 0 - 1 Moldova

Bosnia-Herzegovina suffered a shock defeat at home to lowly Moldova in their UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying clash on Wednesday. The stunning loss dents Bosnia-Herzegovina's hopes of making it to Austria and Switzerland for the Euro 2008 finals next year.

Surprisingly Moldova had the upper hand right from the beginning of the game. Igor Bugaev had a golden chance to put the visitors ahead just after nine minutes, but his shot lacked the power to test Bosnia-Herzegovina goalkeeper Adnan Gušo.

However Moldova broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Alexandru Gatcan sent in a neat pass from the right and Bugaev did the needful. This goal stunned the home crowd and seemed to spur the visitors even more.

Alexandru Epureanu tested Guso with a fine long-range free kick, while Anatolie Doros' shot was blocked by defender Safet Nadarević. Bosnia-Herzegovina played a subdued game for most of the first half, but finally had a chance to equalize just before the break when Dragan Blatnjak's shot tested Moldova keeper Nicolai Calancea. The latter also saved from Džemal Berberović.

The home side pressed on right after the break with Zlatan Muslimović and Edin Džeko going very close. Bosnia-Herzegovina were almost caught out by Victor Comlenoc, but his shot hit the post and saved the day for the hosts.

Berberović had a chance late in injury time, but his shot only hit the post giving Moldova their first away win in the UEFA European Championship since September 1994 when they had beaten Georgia.

Bosnia-Herzegovina are on the fourth spot in Group C with 13 points from nine matches, while Moldova have bottomed out with five points from nine games.
