Bolton Wanderers 1-2 Everton

Bolton Wanderers' season went from bad to worse as they slumped to their fourth defeat of the season against Everton in their Premiership clash on Saturday.

Ayegbeni Yakubu had given the visitors with an early lead before Nicolas Anelka restored parity 10 minutes into the second half. However Joleon Lescott's headed goal in the 90th minute gave all three points to Everton leaving Bolton with just three points from 5 games.

Phil Jagielka and Steven Pienaar made their debuts for Everton while Thomas Gravesen was placed on the bench. Bolton started the match strong and dominated the possession in the first 10 minutes. However Everton managed to take the lead against the run of play in the 11th minute when Andy Johnson latched on to a pass from Pienaar and managed to avoid a challenge by Gerald Cid before finding Yakubu at the far post who was left with a simple tap in.

Bolton pressed ahead in search of an equalizer and were very nearly awarded minutes later when Mikel Alonso struck a firm shot towards the target from 22-yards out but was denied spectacularly by Tim Howard. Alonso managed to beat Howard in the 40th minute but was unlucky as his swerving shot smashed against the bar before bouncing out.

Bolton finally drew level in the 55th minute when Anelka latched on to a poor clearance by the Everton defense to smashing a volley past Howard and into the net. Kevin Nolan had a great chance to put Bolton in the lead when Anelka found him at the far post with a perfect cross, but the midfielder made a hash of his chance to shoot wide.

Gravesen replaced Carsley in the 61st minute and the 31-year old immediately brought calmness to the Everton midfield, setting up some great passes for Pienaar and Johnson, but Jussi Jaaskelainen managed to keep out both the chances.

Just when it looked like both the teams would be finishing the game with one point each, Lescott struck. Gravesen was once again in the thick of things as he curled in a corner which was met emphatically by a rising Lescott to leave Bolton empty handed.
