Bolton Wanderers 0-1 Chelsea

Chelsea chalked up its first league win in over a month with a 1-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers in their Premiership clash on Sunday.

Salomon Kalou bagged the only goal of the match four minutes before half time as Chelsea once again struggled to stamp their authority on their opponents and only a defensive hesitation allowed Kalou to score his team's first goal in over 460 minutes of league action.

In fact Bolton could have walked away with precious three points had it not been for some great saves by Petr Cech in the Chelsea goal as the visitors looked second best in all areas for a major portion of the match.

Chelsea could have taken the lead in the opening minute of the game through Kalou, but his header was comfortably saved by Jussi Jaaskelainen. That was one of the few bright moments for Chelsea in the first half as Bolton took full control of the match with Danny Guthrie, Davies, Ivan Campo and Nicolas Anelka all having good chances to score.

Chelsea took full advantage of Bolton's inability to hit the target by going into the lead four minutes from half time. Abdoulaye Meite and Jaaskelainen both hesitated in clearing a header and Kalou stole forward to slot home the ball after snatching possession from Meite.

Bolton then had a clear penalty appeal turned down after Steve Sidwell looked to have handled the ball inside the area. Though the hosts had an equal share of the possession, they were unable to penetrate a solid Chelsea backline.

Substitute Stelios Giannakopoulos came closest to restoring parity but was only able to hit the crossbar as Chelsea secured their first Premiership win under Avram Grant.
