Bolton 0 - 0 Blackburn

Bolton and Blackburn played out a dull and dreary draw at the Reebok Stadium last Saturday even though the home side had the better of the game play on the field.

Manager Gary Megson was left to rue plenty of missed chances as Bolton could not find a way through a gritty Blackburn defence. Bolton have never beaten Blackburn at home in the Premiership and this dismal turn of events continued on Saturday as they failed to make any impact.

Supporters of both sides who braved the teeming rain to venture out in the Reebok Stadium were left disappointed with the tepid football being played on the pitch.

Things could have been very different in the first minute itself when Johan Elmander picked out Fabrice Muamba, but the neat shot sent toward the goal by the latter was cleared from the back post by Blackburn skipper Ryan Nelsen.

Matt Taylor's free-kick in the 18th minute was another great chance for the home side, but visiting goalkeeper Paul Robinson turned it away at the post.

Bolton seemed to go from strength to strength after this and Elmander had a great chance in the 26th minute, but his weak shot failed to test Robinson. For Blackburn Robbie Fowler got into the action and sent a nice through ball into Jason Roberts' path, but the latter was off side.

After the break, Elmander and Nolan tried their luck, but failed to get past Robinson. In the 77th minute, Taylor found himself clear in the box, but shot just wide. In the closing minutes Benni McCarthy found the side netting from a close range as the game petered out to a tame draw.
