Blackpool 2-3 Manchester United Cathcart 15 Berbatov 72, 88
Campbell 43 Hernandez 74 Manchester United’s dramatic second-half comeback at Blackpool maintained their unbeaten EPL record, and their five-point lead at the top of the table. In a game of two contrasting halves, the Tangerines fully deserved their two-goal half-time lead. But United stormed back, and were worthy winners. Blackpool took a 15th-minute lead when Craig Cathcart powered home a header from Charlie Adam’s right-wing corner. Nemanja Vidic nearly put through his own net, keeper Edwin Van der Sar making the block. Elliot Grandin fired over from 15 yard when well-placed. And DJ Campbell’s 43rd-minute far-post header from another right-sided Adam corner gave Blackpool a 2-0 interval lead. They had strong penalty appeals turned down when Rafael da Silva felled Luke Varney. And United took advantage of the reprieve. Dimitar Berbatov made it 2-1, tapping in Darren Fletcher’s cross from the by-line on 72 minutes. Two minutes later, two United substitutes combined for the equaliser, Ryan Giggs sending Javier Hernandez clear and the in-form Mexican making no mistake with his left-foot shot. And after a lengthy stoppage to treat a head injury to Rafael, United picked up where they left off and won the game through Berbatov’s low drive from Paul Scholes’ pinpoint through-ball.
