Blackburn Rovers 1-1 Arsenal

David Dunn scored his first goal for Blackburn Rovers since his return to help the club secure a point against Arsenal in their Premiership clash at Ewood Park on Sunday.

Arsenal had earlier taken the lead through Robin Van Persie after he latched on to a goalkeeping error by Brad Friedel but were pulled back on level terms after Jens Lehmann continued his shaky performance in the goal to let a simple shot by Dunn pass through his hands. Blackburn were reduced to 10 men after Ryan Nelsen received his marching orders with 10 minutes to go before the final whistle.

Theo Walcott replaced the injured Tomas Rosicky and the 18-year old created the first chance of the match when his through ball was very nearly latched on to by debutant Eduardo Da Silva. Arsenal had an injury scare in the 5th minute when Lehmann crashed into Kolo Toure. The German keeper received extensive treatment from the Arsenal physio and managed to shake off the knock to carry on.

Arsenal finally took the lead in the 18th minute when Gael Clichy's cross was nodded into the path of Da Silva. However Friedel failed to clear the shot, leaving Van Persie with a simplest of finish to give his team the lead. Six minutes later Arsenal captain William Gallas had to be withdrawn after twisting his knee and was replaced by Philippe Senderos.

Blackburn had a great chance to pull level in the 34th minute when Christopher Samba's flick on found Nelsen in the box but the defender's firm header smashed against the post. Blackburn started the second half strongly, with Bentley's free kick just curling wide of the post while Roque Santa Cruz saw his header narrowly miss the target.

Lehmann had to be at his best to deny Morten Gamst Pedersen's free kick attempt in the 66th minute. However 6 minutes later Lehmann produced his second howler in as many matches to allow Blackburn to come back into the match.

Dunn took possession nearly the centre of the field and after a one-two with Santa Cruz drove a firm shot towards Lehmann. However the German made a hash of a regulation save by allowing the ball slip through his hand and nestle into the back of the net.

Blackburn were looking confident of securing a winner, but received a blow when Nelson was shown a second yellow for tackling Van Persie, leaving the home side with just 10 men for the remainder of the match. However Blackburn held on o the point to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 8 matches.
