Blackburn Rovers 2-1 Birmingham City

Blackburn Rovers continued their impressive form with a convincing 2-1 victory over Birmingham City in their Premiership clash on Sunday.

The hosts took an early lead in the 15th minute through David Bentley while Benni McCarthy doubled the lead nine minutes into the second half. Birmingham got one back with through Cameron Jerome with 20 minutes remaining but Blackburn held on to the lead to chalk up their second successive 2-1 victory.

Bentley had a great game for Blackburn as he constantly troubled Maik Taylor in the goal right from the start and deservedly put Blackburn in the lead with just 15 minutes on the clock.

David Dunn fired in a low cross into the area after some good work on the right flank leaving Bentley with a simple chance from close range as the winger turned around before slotting the ball home through Stephen Kelly's legs.

Jerome had a great chance to equalize for Birmingham minutes after the goal after he was put through by Medhi Nafti but was unable to beat Brad Friedel. However it was Blackburn all the way in the first half as Santa Cruz, Stephen Warnock and Christopher Samba all missed some reasonable chances to double the lead.

Birmingham came into the second half strongly and should have been awarded the equalizer in the 55th minute when Gary McSheffrey converted from close range, but his effort was harshly ruled out for offside.

The visitors were dealt with another blow a minute later when Santa Cruz was fouled inside the area by Djourou and the penalty kick was easily converted by McCarthy. Birmingham got one back in the 68th minute when Jerome hit a thumping volley into the net from 12 yards out. However the visitors were unable to find the equalizer, leaving Blackburn with all three points from the game.
