Blackburn 2-1 ArsenalDunn 44 Van Persie 13 Samba 68 Arsenal’s dismal late-season form continued with defeat at Blackburn which leaves them still a point from clinching third place in the EPL. A month ago, the Gunners were in the title race. But this second consecutive defeat in Lancashire means they are closer to the chasing pack. None of the EPL’s “big” four have won at Ewood Park this season. Arsenal started encouragingly, however. Carlos Vela spurned a sixth minute opportunity, firing wide from close range after good work from Theo Walcott. But they were ahead on 13 minutes when Samr Nasri’s corner was flicked on by Bacary Sagna for Robin Van Persie to head home at the far post. Both goalkeepers made fine stops from long-range efforts, Rovers’ Paul Robinson denying Van Persie and Arsenal’s Lukasz Fabianski saving twice from Morten Gamst Pedersen. But Rovers equalised a minute before the break, David Dunn tapping in Keith Andrews’ low cross. And this inspired the hosts, who dominated the second half. Fabianski made another save from Pedersen before tipping over an effort from substitute Junior Hoilett. And Rovers grabbed the winner midway through the half, Christopher Samba proving too immovable an object as he headed home Pedersen’s corner from two yards.
