Olivier Kapo scored the only goal of the match in the 37th minute handing Bolton a 5th defeat in six games in front of a near capacity Birmingham had a penalty appeal turned down after Sebastian Larsson was brought down by Jlloyd Samuel in the area but referee Phil Dowd adjudged it to be a fair challenge. Bolton's first chance of the match fell to Kevin Nolan but the midfielder saw his shot go wide from 15 yards out. Bolton were unable to provide the final touch as Birmingham defended brilliantly with Mehdi Nafti diving in to make a number of tackles to deny Bolton the space to work out a response. The loss, coupled with Derby County's win against Newcastle sees Bolton slump to the foot of the table with just three points from six matches while Birmingham rise to 12th position with 7 points from six games.
