Birmingham City 1-1 Derby CountyBirmingham were frustrated at St Andrews by lowly Derby County as they were held to a 1-1 draw, which saw them slip into the relegation zone at the 17th spot on the Premiership table with 21 points from 25 games.
Manager Alex McLeish watched in disbelief as his side conceded a late goal allowing the Rams to gain one point from the encounter. However Derby County are yet to record their first win under new boss Paul Jewell.
As expected Birmingham City dominated the game with former Juventus player Olivier Kapo proving to be a dangerous customer. Kapo created several chances in the first half and was unlucky not to have at least one goal against his name.
Derby's debutant goalkeeper Roy Carroll was called into action early on and had to be at full stretch to deny Kapo. James McFadden and Fabrice Muamba remained constant threats to the Derby goal, but were unable to convert their possession into goals.
After the break Paul Jewell brought in Giles Barnes and Emmanuel Villa for Laurent Robert and Earnshaw. The deadlock was finally broken in the 69th minute when Sebastian Larsson drove a low shot beyond Carroll.
Thereafter Birmingham pressed for a second goal in this live Premiership encounter, but were unable to break the Derby defence. Just when it looked like all three points were heading Birmingham's way, Villa headed a Dean Leacock cross into the Blues net to leave them frustrated.
The draw meant Derby continued to occupy the bottom spot in the Premiership with 9 points from 25 games. Tags: Birmingham, Paul Jewell, live Premiership, Derby Posted: |
