Birmingham City 0-2 PortsmouthPortsmouth continued their impressive form with a clinical display in the 2-0 victory over Birmingham City on Saturday.
Sulley Muntari saw his 34th minute shot slip under debutant Richard Kingson's body to put Portsmouth in the lead while Niko Kranjcar curled home a stunning free kick eight minutes before full time to grab all three points for his team.
The first chance of the match fell to Kranjcar early on in the match when his stinging shot was saved by Kingson. Birmingham pressed forward and almost took the lead through Mikael Forssell who controlled the ball superbly before turning around to drive the ball towards the target only to see David James dive full stretch to palm the ball away.
Pompey finally took the lead in the 34th minute thanks to some poor keeping by Kingson who allowed Muntari's angled shot to crawl under his body and into the net. Both the teams were struggling to create chances much to the disappointment of the crowd who upped the noise level but to no avail.
Birmingham had a great chance to draw level late in the game when Ridgewell went on a driving run on the left flank but dallied on the ball, allowing Pamarot to tackle the defender. Kranjcar put the result beyond doubt in the 82nd minute when he curled in a 25-yard free kick past Kingson and into the net. Tags: Portsmouth, Birmingham, David James, Pompey Posted: |
