Bayern Munich 1-0 BelenensesThis most certainly wasn’t the script that Bayern players and fans would have thought would be played out in this live football match at the Allianz Arena. The German team were expected to show the Portuguese side just how much a lesser competition the Champions league would be without them. However based on this performance Bayern Munich deserves to be in the UEFA cup for the first time in 11 years. A crowd of 64 000 came to watch UEFA Cup football, but didn’t expect the home side to struggle top this extent. Manager Ottmar Hitzfeld had no excuses for the performance which was largely forgettable, apart from the only goal of the game which came from striker Luca Toni who was only included in the team at the last minute having had trouble with a thigh strain. At least they have the goal and did not concede an away goal which would have been seen as disastrous for the German side. Belenenses of course were overjoyed by the result and voiced their confidence in taking Bayern back to their O Restelo Stadium in a few weeks. Jorge Jesus is looking forward to the fixture as he knows that Bayern have had a scare in the first leg of the tie. The problem for him is that they are no longer the unknown team that they were and any lack of respect shown to them in the first leg will not be there for the next leg. Despite the result Bayern should prove too strong for the minnows and take their place in the group stages of the UEFA cup. Of course if they take the team lightly again then Belenenses may take advantage of this tie as it will only take one goal to change the match completely.
