Bayern Munich 2-2 Bolton WanderersBolton Wanderers emerged unscathed from a tough test against Bayern Munich as they held the German giants to a 2-2 draw in their UEFA Cup Group F clash on Thursday.
Bolton had taken an early lead thanks to an 8th minute goal by Ricardo Gardner but a brace by Lukas Podolski on the either side of the halftime whistle saw the English club heading to an unlucky defeat. However Kevin Davis equalized for Bolton with just eight minutes remaining as Gary Megson's side held out for a second draw in as many matches and keep their qualification hopes alive.
Bolton took a shock lead in the 8th minute when Kevin Nolan's found Danny Guthrie who found Gardner inside the penalty area. The defender's shot took a deflection before going in off the cross bar to put the visitors in the lead.
Davis had a great chance to double the lead after latching on to Gavin McCann's through ball before going round Lucio. But his shot went just wide of the target. Bayern took full advantage of the near escape to pull level on the half hour mark when Ribery pulled the ball back to Podolski who hit an unstoppable drive into the Bolton net.
Both the players combined once again four minutes into the second half to put Bayern Munich in the lead when Ribery found Podolski in the area with a perfect cross and the German striker made no mistake from close range.
The German club had the upper hand throughout the match and were denied time and again by some great saves by Bolton keeper Ali Al Habsi who managed to keep his side in the hunt as the game ticked towards the full time whistle.
Bolton capitalized on Habsi's good form in the goal by drawing level with 8 minutes remaining when Nolan found Davis at the back post with a brilliant cross over Lucio and Christian Lell and the 30-year old made no mistake in smashing the ball past Kahn to bag a precious point for his club.
