Arsenal 2-0 BoltonArsenal consolidated their place at the top of the Premiership table as they overwhelmed Bolton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium last Saturday. The Trotters who were without a manager took the fight to the Gunners, but the latter had superior firepower, which eventually got them the three points.
Arsene Wenger and midfielder Cesc Fabregas had received their manager and player of the month awards just before kick-off and Arsenal appeared keen to prove these awards were no fluke. They started off in a nice fashion attacking all the time, but Bolton held them off for much of 60 minutes.
Emmanuel Adebayor had an early chance when Alexander Hleb sent in a nice pass from the left flank. But the Togo striker was unable to make contact and Bolton breathed a sigh of relief. Bacary Sagna's cross again found Adebayor, but this time his header went inches wide.
Fabregas and El Hadji Diouf received yellow cards mid-way through the first half for clashing over Gavin McCann's foul on Sagna. After the break, Arsenal had a great chance to take the lead when McCann mistakenly put the ball straight to Emmanuel Eboue. However the latter's shot was not on target.
Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen was kept busy throughout the second half and was called on to make a save from a Fabregas shot. Fabregas was fouled by Campo after 68 minutes and from the resulting free kick Kolo Toure finally put the Gunners ahead.
Walcott then sent in a nice pass to Thomas Rosicky on 80 minutes for him to slot home the second goal for Arsenal and ensure a comfortable victory. This was the Gunners' 11th straight victory and keeps them secure on top of the Premier League table with 25 points from nine games, while Bolton have work to do as they languish at the bottom of the table with five points from 10 games.
