Arsenal 2-1 Tottenham HotspurArsenal maintained their position at the top of the league table with a convincing victory over Tottenham Hotspur in their Premiership clash on Saturday.
Arsenal took the lead three minutes into the second half through Emmanuel Adebayor who put finishing touches to a brilliant build up play by Cesc Fabregas. However equalized in the 66th minute through Dimitar Berbatov and should have had taken the lead when Robbie Keane missed from the penalty spot. Nicklas Bendtner made Spurs pay by grabbing the winner minutes later to collect all three points for his team.
Tottenham started the match on a defensive note and proved to be more than a match for all of Arsenal's flair in the midfield. With Cesc Fabregas, Adebayor and Hleb failing to break down a resolute Spurs defense, Tottenham looked to exploit any space on the counter.
The only real chance of the match fell to Emmanuel Eboue but the full back saw his shot for a tight angle saved easily by Paul Robinson. But Arsenal managed to take the lead three minutes into the second half when a driving run by Fabregas found Adebayor inside the penalty area and the Togo striker placed the ball past Robinson and into the net.
Spurs pressed forward and almost grabbed the equalizer in the 65th minute when Keane's volley struck the cross bar. However the visitors were back on level terms a minute later when Berbatov smashed Keane's cross past a helpless Almunia.
Spurs should have had taken the lead in the 71st minute when they were awarded a penalty after Berbatov was fouled by Toure, but Keane was unable to beat Almunia, who guessed right and the rebound was cleared away by the Arsenal defense.
Wenger brought on Bendtner to replace Eboue and the move paid instant dividends as the striker rose high to head home Fabregas' corner past Robinson to score the winner with his first touch of the game. Tags: Arsenal, Premiership, Cesc Fabregas, Dimitar Berbatov, Tottenham, Spurs Posted: |
