Wilshere 66 Chamakh 69 Arsenal steamrollered their Ukranian champions, and supposed main threat in Group H, to leave themselves one win from their 11th consecutive qualification for the Champions League knock-out stages. The Gunners strolled through a dull first half against Shakhtar Donetsk, but turned on the style after half-time before ex-striker Eduardo netted a well-received consolation. Arsenal went ahead when Alexander Song bundled the ball home after Shakhtar keeper Andriy Pyatov dropped Sebastien Squillachi’s 19th minute header. Samr Nasri doubled their advantage with his deflected left-foot shot three minutes before half-time. And captain Cesc Fabregas completed his successful comeback from injury with a penalty on the hour, awarded for Adriano’s unceremonious hauling down of Johan Djourou in the box. Jack Wilshere made it 4-0 with a dinked left-foot shot over Pyatov after an incisive one-two with Tomas Rosicky on 66 minutes. And Marouane Chamakh added an embarrassingly easy fifth three minutes later, a Champions League record sixth goal in consecutive matches, after he was given time to check for an offside flag before side-footing Nasri’s pass past the horribly-exposed Pyatov. Eduardo neatly half-volleyed home Jadson’s cross with his left foot on 82 minutes, to the applause of Arsenal fans who knew the game was long won.
