Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United

A stunning first half display saw Manchester United book their place in a second successive Champions League final with a 4-1 aggregate win over Arsenal on Tuesday.

United went in the game with a slender 1-0 lead from the first leg and looked set for a long night as Arsenal were quickly off the blocks, dominating possession in the opening minutes of the game.

However the visitors found fortune on their side as they grabbed a vital away goal as Kieran Gibbs slipped when trying to clear a routine cross from Cristiano Ronaldo, allowing Park Ji Sung to slot home from close range.

The game was all over three minutes later with yet another brilliant strike from Ronaldo who powered in a superb free kick from 41 yards out, leaving keeper Manuel Almunia rooted on the spot.

Wayne Rooney almost scored a third goal minutes later but his curling effort was saved brilliantly by Almunia. Arsenal's attempts to stage a miraculous comeback in the second half were unsuccessful as United refused to loosen their grip on the game.

With the Gunners committing men forward, the visitors hit them on the counter in a move that saw Ronaldo head an Arsenal corner straight to Park before scampering towards the opposition penalty box. The South Korean captain passed the ball for Rooney who played in Ronaldo and the Portuguese winger made no mistake from close range.

Arsenal managed to grab a consolation goal as they were awarded a fortunate penalty in the 76th minute with Darren Fletcher being sent off for a foul on Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persie converted from the spot to add some respectability to the scoreline.
