Arsenal 1-0 West Brom

Arsenal managed to start their latest Premiership campaign on a winning note beating newly promoted West Brom 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium last Saturday. Although the margin of victory was very narrow, manager Arsene Wenger will nevertheless be pleased that his side collected all three points.

Arsenal fans were treated to some delightful football from the Gunners as debutant Samir Nasri acquitted himself very well. Nasri scored on his debut to ensure that Arsenal’s new look midfield did not have to cope with intense scrutiny from fans as well as observers.

Nicklas Bendtner was also in great form as his header narrowly missed early on in the game. Emmanuel Adebayor, who has signed a new contract with Arsenal, was also a constant threat to the Baggies. Nasri scored after just 4 minutes following a nice interchange between Bendtner, Gael Clichy and Denilson.

However the Gunners seemed to settle down after this and although they had several chances, they were unable to sore again.

West Brom manager Tony Mowbray would have been pleased with the way his defense held firm for large parts of the game. Miller even created a couple of chances forcing a save from Almunia and then Robinson's follow-up was blocked by Djourou from the Gunners goalline.

Robin van Persie came on during the second half and on 82 minutes forced Scott Carson into making a good save. The match then petered out with neither team troubling the goalkeepers in the last five minutes.
