Argentina 4-1 South Korea

Diego Maradona’s Argentina produced the team performance of the tournament so far to overcome South Korea at Johannesburg’s Soccer City.

They were helped when Park Chu-Yong diverted Lionel Messi’s left-wing free-kick into his own net. But Argentina took full advantage of the Koreans’ first-half defensive set-up.

They foolishly conceded just before half-time, which lifted the Koreans. But they weathered a second-half Korean storm. And two superb team goals gave the scoreline a deservedly emphatic look.

After Park Chu-Yung’s misfortune, Gonzalo Higuain made it 2-0 with a close-range header. But defender Martin Dimichelis gifted Lee Chung-Yong his stoppage-time strike.

And Yeom Ki-Hun should have equalised after the break, only to find the side-netting with his left-foot drive when well placed.

Higuain tapped home the third after Messi saw shots saved and strike a post. And he nodded home his third after fine link-up play between Messi and lively substitute Sergio Aguero.
