“Must Do Better” Fumes McCarthy

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has had enough of his team earning praise for good showings against those teams in the higher echelons of the Premier League - he wants them to start earning points as well.

A 2-0 home defeat to Chelsea was the latest reverse for a team lying outside the drop zone but still by no means clear of trouble. McCarthy is convinced his side can produce better results against the top teams and knows that they need to start picking up points to match the performances. “It shouldn’t be a foregone conclusion that Chelsea come to Wolves and win” said McCarthy. “Someone said ‘well done’ when we went in the dressing room but it wasn’t ‘well done’ because we got beat. I’m not lambasting the performance because it was good but I hate saying we played well but we got beat – it hacks me off. We let them off the hook so I was annoyed and disappointed we lost against the champions-elect.”

Chelsea keeper Petr Cech was one of those full of praise for the Molineux side and their performance. “They put on a very good performance but they didn’t take their chances, we took ours and that was the difference. They’ve been in good form recently and the shape they play is very difficult to score against.”
