Zarate Interests ‘Big’ Clubs
On loan Birmingham striker Mauro Zarate is creating quite an interest among football clubs around Europe. Zarate scored twice for Birmingham at the weekend as they beat Manchester City 3-1 in the Premier League to boost their survival chances. The 21 year old Argentine striker is on loan at the Midlands club from Al-Sadd who play in Qatar. Zarate moved on loan to St Andrews on loan in January after only a year playing in Qatar. His move to Qatar was a shock for most Argentine fans and the move was set to land him a lucrative salary. He only played 12 games for Al-Sadd before being tempted to play in the biggest league in the world with Birmingham City. Zarate has now stated his intent at staying in England to play football and admits he was wrong to move to Qatar so early in his career. Since he arrived at St Andrews he hasn’t being in brilliant form, but is slowly adjusting to life in England. His two goals on Saturday showed how good he can be and Birmingham will be keen to secure him on a longer deal. Zarate and Birmingham will talk this week about a permanent move but Al-Sadd will no doubt want to re-coup the £10 million they paid for Zarate, which could affect whether Birmingham end up keeping him or not. Alex McLeish will be aware of the teams that are watching him as several Premier League teams tried signing him in January but were beaten by Birmingham. Some of the clubs include Liverpool, Newcastle, Tottenham, Man City and Sunderland. Zarate’s agent confirmed that the striker would be holding talks with Birmingham first as he loves the club, the fans and the city. Tags: Mauro Zarate, Birmingham, Alex McLeish Posted: |
