Xavi agrees six-year deal at Barcelona

 

Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez insists that it is his dream to finish his career at the Nou Camp after agreeing a new a six-year extension to his contract.

 

Xavi, 28, was subject to interest from numerous top European clubs; however it seems that the midfielder is set to remain at the Nou Camp for the time being following the new deal.

 

Rumours suggested that the Catalan club had put forward an offer, said to be worth around €7 million-per-year, while the player demanded €9 million, in order to make himself the second highest paid player at the club behind Lionel Messi.

 

Xavi was also said to be hopeful of a life-long deal at the club that would see him contracted at the Nou Camp until he chose to retire.

Xavi told press: “My dream is to retire at Barça. I have always said that I want to stay here. I have always felt comfortable and highly valued by the club. At no time have they said that they want to sell me.”

 

Xavi has made over 291 appearances for the club since 1998, including 67 appearances for the Barcelona B squad. The Catalan born player has also been capped 68 times by the Spain international squad, and is currently vice-captain of the first-team squad.
