Wright Phillips Complete City ReturnEngland international winger Shaun Wright Phillips has completed a surprise return to his former club, Manchester City for a fee reported to be around £10 Million. With the imminent arrival of Robinho at Stamford Bridge, new Chelsea coach Luiz Felipe Scolari had regarded Wright-Phillips as surplus to requirements and has subsequently allowed the deal to be completed.
Wright-Phillips was signed from the City of Manchester stadium side by Jose Mourinho in the summer of 2005 for £21 Million. However, the 26 year old has consistently struggled to hold down a regular place in the Chelsea team and subsequently his form has dropped. He has also struggled to get in to Fabio Capello’s England team. Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has expressed his delight at bringing Wright-Phillips back to the club. He said “to actually secure the deal and bring Shaun back home is a fantastic coup for us and I'm sure the supporters will be just as excited as we are to have him back at Manchester City”.
In his three seasons at Stamford Bridge, Wright-Phillips made 82 appearances and scored 4 goals. Tags: Shaun Wright Phillips, Manchester City, Chelsea, Mark Hughes Posted: |
