Wolves Make Blue The Colour For Chelsea

Wolverhampton Wanderers supremo Mick McCarthy was understandably delighted at the “fabulous” display of his side in beating EPL title-holders Chelsea at Molineux on Wednesday night.

The win saw Wolves escape the EPL’s relegation zone on goal difference, at the expense of Midlands rivals Aston Villa. And McCarthy was fulsome in his praise for his players afterwards. He said:

“They gave me everything, for which I’m hugely thankful and proud. We sometimes lack a bit of quality and make mistakes – and that’s me included – but as a unit they’re fabulous in terms of what they give me.”

Wolves followed up their first win at Anfield since 1984 with dismal defeat at fellow-strugglers West Ham, which had Mick McCarthy claiming his side had committed “football suicide.”

But the Chelsea win leaves them in the much-coveted 17th place in the EPL.

Wolves turn to FA Cup action this weekend with a trip to Championship side Doncaster Rovers. Midfielder Karl Henry could return from a knee injury.

Wolves were hoping to complete a loan deal for wantaway Aston Villa full-back Steve Sidwell, who was at Molineux to watch the game against former club Chelsea.

McCarthy said on Wednesday: “If he’s available and we can agree a fee and terms, I would take him in a heartbeat.”

But despite turning down a move to West Ham, the 28-year-old Sidwell now seems set again on moving to London, with Fulham.

Wolves are also reportedly interested in Millwall striker Steve Morison. The Welsh international is valued at £3m.
