Wolves Clash With Pack Member Not Crucial

With the relegation dogfight hotting up, Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has moved to take the pressure off his men ahead of the match at similarly-threatened Burnley.

A host of potential ‘six-pointers’ await both teams before the season is out and McCarthy has stressed that the result at Turf Moor will not be a defining moment in Wolves season. McCarthy said He said: “There’s no point building it up any more – why would I want to do that? What happens if we beat both Blackburn and Stoke at home and what are their fixtures in return? “We’ve also got Portsmouth away – who knows how they’re going to be feeling with what they’ve got hanging over them? We have Sunderland here for the last game of the season, but before that we’ve got to play teams all around us.”

Striker Kevin Doyle has backed McCarthy and believes that the battle to remain in the Premier League will go down to the wire. The forward has been encouraged by his manager to spend more time in the opposition’s box as his work rate for the team has often left them creating chances which he cannot get on the end of. Putting away the chances has been a major problem with a single home goal in the last six matches and following Jody Craddock’s mistake allowing Paul Scholes to score for Manchester United, the need to make those chances count is becoming more important by the game.
