Wenger Warns Against Complacency

Arsenal are flying high so far this season and look to claim a 10th straight win when they take on Sunderland at the weekend. Arsene Wenger and his side have dazzled and entertained so far this season but their leader has urged players not to take success for granted.

In addition to their impressive home form the Gunners have also opened their European campaign with a 100% record. Coupled with record breaking financial statements and capacity crowds at the new 60,000 seater Emirates stadium

and it is easy to see why younger stars could become complacent.

With the departure of talisman Thierry Henry during the summer many fans doubted the ability of the fledgling Arsenal side and were not looking forward to the start of the 2007-08 season. Sunderland have often been a thorn in the side for Arsenal so Wenger holds the game as important as any other:

"That is our test," Wenger declared. "At the start of the season, it was to believe we were good enough - now it is to keep a strength in our belief, stay focused. We know with an average performance we can lose against Sunderland.

Sunderland have been transformed under the management of former Man U player Roy Keane. Whilst they have lost all 4 games they have played against big gun teams this season they are a spirited side and results are not to be taken for granted. Keane’s success has already won the respect of fellow managers including Wenger who believes he has successfully managed to transfer the values he held dear as a player to his new position.

"He has won everything as a player and has that aura around him, so people think straight away that will transform into a manager as well," the French coach said.
