Wenger Signs New ContractArsene Wenger has signed an extension to his current contract at Arsenal which will keep him at the club until 2011. Wenger’s future has been the subject of much speculation over the past months after the departure of David Dein and striker Thierry Henry during the course of the summer. Wenger’s new deal is thought to bring the 57 year old Frenchman in the region of £4 million a year. The contract extension is good news for a club that has been through the mill. Critics have been laid to rest with a great start to the season and Wenger’s transfer policies and trust in his young players seems to be paying dividends. Arsenal currently sit second in the Premier League and have progressed to the group stages of the UEFA Champions League after comfortably beating Sparta Prague over 2 legs. Arsenal under Wenger have picked up 3 premiership titles and 4 FA Cups since his arrival in 1996. The team also played in the Champions League final in 2006 but were defeated by Barcelona.
