Watford v BlackburnWatford are now only one game away from possible relegation into the Championship with a crushing 3-1 defeat. High flying Blackburn plough ahead towards a possible UEFA Cup place.
Watford started the game poorly and this was fully capitalised by Blackburn who were celebrating their second goal by the 10th minute. The first came from Christopher Samba heading in from a corner. This was followed by striker Jason Roberts hitting home on 10 minutes. Watford settled down and were able to reply with a goal from Rinaldi placing a powerful header past Friedel in the 21st minute. This was Rinaldi’s first goal of the season with the Hornets. This lifeline was snuffed out by a third goal from Blackburn. McCarthy scored in the 32nd minute to round up a frantic first half. Watford couldn’t find a way back in the second half and it ended up 3-1 at the final whistle with David Bentley claiming man of the match.
Watford now have only 24 points from 35 games ensuring they are destined for a 07-08 season in the championship with official relegation possible at the weekend. However, Boothroyd is possibly the right man to make them bounce straight back up. Blackburn claimed a well deserved and confident win here and now they are looking at a fight for a UEFA cup place.
