Spain striker David Villa could face retrospective punishment for an off-the-ball incident during their World Cup clash with Honduras.

 

Villa, who scored both goals in Spain’s 2-0 win, appeared to strike defender Emilio Izaguirre in the face as both players waited for a free-kick, although the Honduran made the most of it and collapsed to the ground several seconds after it actually happened.

FIFA will await the referee’s report before making any judgement but if they decide on disciplinary action, it could result in a suspension for the new Barcelona signing.

The Spanish can ill-afford to be without his services though because they must beat Chile to guarantee their place in the last 16.

The South American pacesetters in Group H have maximum points from their two matches, while Spain and Switzerland have three points apiece going into the final round of fixtures.
