Nemanja Vidic will undergo a scan on his knee after he was carried off with what looked like a very serious injury during Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Roma in the Champions League last night.

The big, commanding centre half fell badly during the first half of the match in Italy and was treated on the field by the Man Utd physio only to be carried off on a stretcher and replaced by John O’Shea moments later.

Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson said that he is praying that the injury won’t be as bad as it looked, as he is a key player in the team. He added that he can’t tell what sort of injury he has picked up until after the scan.

This season Vidic has been immense at the back with his centre back partner Rio Ferdinand and both players have played their part in helping Man Utd to the top of the Premier League. If Vidic is out for a long period of time then it will be a massive blow for Man Utd ahead of their title race run in.

Manchester Utd do have cover in case Vidic is out for a long period. O’Shea slotted in at centre half last night and looked comfortable and Mikael Silvestre has returned to the team following a lengthy absence through injury.
