Vidic Injury Not As Bad As First Feared

Nemanja Vidic

Manchester United have revealed that centre back Nemanja Vidic will be out injured for between two and three weeks.

Vidic went for a scan on his knee on Wednesday and had to go back for a second one on Thursday which revealed that the injury was not as bad as first feared.

The Serbian defender fell badly on his knee during Man Utd’s 2-0 win over Roma on Tuesday night and was replaced by John O’Shea.

Vidic will miss games with Middlesbrough and Arsenal in the Premier League and the second leg of the Champions League tie with Roma.

If he is out for three weeks he could also miss the semi-finals of the Champions League against Barcelona or Schalke, should they reach them.

Man Utd thought that Vidic could miss the rest of the season but have been given the good news and will have him available as they reach the run in for the Premier League title race.

Man Utd would have had enough cover at the back should Vidic be out for longer. Mikael Silvestre is fit again, John O’Shea can slot in at centre back and Wes Brown could revert to centre back from his right back position. Gerard Pique is also another option to play at the back.
