Venky’s Set Sights On Star-Studded Summer Signings

Blackburn Rovers’ owners Venky’s have reportedly compiled a list of big-name summer transfer targets as they attempt to make their mark in the EPL.

Rovers, meanwhile, have failed to ease relegation concerns with recent results. But there was some good news with much-heralded teenage defender Phil Jones set to return from long-term injury sooner than expected.

Venky’s failed in an audacious bid to bring ageing Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho to Ewood Park during last month’s transfer window, despite reportedly offering him an annual salary in the region of £7m.

But this has allegedly not deterred Venky’s owners, the Rao family, from contacting representatives of fellow Brazilian stars Luis Fabiano, Robinho and Kaka, among other names, to check on availability in the summer.

Rovers are also believed to be targeting younger Brazilian talent should, as expected, their quest for superstar names fail.

Rovers picked up their first EPL points in three matches in a goalless draw at home to Newcastle. They remain five points above the drop zone, in eleventh place.

19-year-old Jones has been on the sidelines since having knee surgery last December but hopes to be back for the Lancashire derby at home to Blackpool on March 19th.

He recently signed a one-year contract extension keeping him at Rovers until 2016. And he said he was hopeful of being “back out next week doing the warm-up and maybe a bit of training.”

Blackburn visit Aston Villa, the scene of their recent FA Cup exit, in the EPL this Saturday afternoon.
