Mexico forward Carlos Vela looks set to return from injury for El Tri’s last 16 clash with in-form Argentina.

The 21-year-old Arsenal man missed the 1-0 defeat to Uruguay with a leg injury sustained in the 2-0 win over France. But a team spokesman confirmed his recovery on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, coach Javier Aguirre has revenge in mind on the Albiceleste, who knocked Mexico out of the 2006 tournament at the last-16 stage – the 2-1 win coming in one of the tournament’s best games.

Aguirre said: “This could be a nice opportunity to take revenge for what happened four years ago.”
