Van der Sar ĎEdísí For record
Manchester United’s Dutch international keeper Edwin van der Sar has leaped into the all-time top 10 goalkeepers in terms of time without conceding a goal.
United’s 3-0 win against his old club Fulham saw the 38 year-old former Ajax and Juventus shot-stopper move into 6th place in the list. A clean sheet against Blackburn Rovers and an hour-long denial of Newcastle United’s forward line will see him move up to second. However, it will take a monumental effort to overtake Mazaropi who went over 30 hours without conceding for Brazilian side Vasco da Gama some 30 years ago. No fewer than seven further games another month and a bit will be required by van der Sar if he wants the top spot.
At the other end of the pitch, England striker Wayne Rooney is delighted to be back playing after his recent absence through a hamstring problem. United have won all seven games since Rooney suffered his injury and with the form of the player who replaced him, Carlos Tevez, he occasionally wondered whether he would actually get his starting place back. "I have missed seven games and we have won the lot. You think 'How am I going to get back into this team?."
