United March On

Manchester United ploughed relentlessly on towards the Premier League title with a come-from-behind win against Tottenham Hotspur. And Wayne Rooney believes that only a major slip by United will allow Liverpool to overhaul them.

Goals from Ronaldo, Berbatov and Rooney himself saw a United side rampant in the second half although they were perhaps fortunate to have been handed a penalty when 2-0 down to bring them into the match. The England striker knows that the Champions are in a great position and retention of their title is theirs to throw away. He was delighted by the comeback after admitting that the pace of the first half was not good enough.

Boss Sir Alex Ferguson praised the influence of Carlos Tevez who played the last half hour and inspired the rest of his team but also acknowledged the fortune of the penalty award. “It was a bit fortunate,” he said. “Football is funny like that. Last week we were knocked out of the FA Cup by not getting a penalty kick. It doesn’t deflect from our second-half performance.”
