United Dominate Nominee List

Manchester United players have scooped five of the six places in the shortlist to become the PFA Player of the Year. Only Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard broke the Red Devils clean sweep attempt.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and keeper Edwin van der Sar are five well-deserved contenders according to Sir Alex Ferguson. After failing to win an award during their treble winning season in 1999, the performances of some of his players have made the Old Trafford boss thankful that he will not have to chose between them. “It is difficult to choose a player of the year," he said” Giggs, Vidic, Darren Fletcher, John O'Shea and Edwin van der Sar have all done well.”

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich’s declaration that Franck Ribery will not be going to Barcelona has reignited United’s hope that they can land the French international. Mark van Bommel’s comments that “Franck wants to play in Barcelona” have reportedly been mis-interpreted. A Bayern Munich spokesman said: "Van Bommel tried to give an interview in Spanish, but what he meant to say is not what was interpreted.”
