USA v China PR
The United States takes on China PR in a game on Saturday that is being touted as the perfect preparation for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup. That tournament is due to start June 6 and the USA are defending champions.
New coach Bob Bradley has a chance to judge who can make the cut as he attempts to get some sort of control over his new wards. The USA had a forgettable World Cup last year and despite having a decent chance of making it through, they missed their opportunities.
The game is to be played at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, where the USA last produced a winning 2-0 result over Wales. The stars of that game were Eddie Lewis and Landon Donovan. Bradley who was the coach of Chivas USA has chosen five players from there to represent the US in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Bradley has chosen 11 Europe-based players in his 23-man squad. Goalkeeper Kasey Keller can look forward to notching up 100 caps as he is just three short of that milestone. Tim Howard of Everton is also available for Bradley and early indications are that he might get a start. Kljestan, Lee, Davis and Hill will also be looking to make early impressions and could make their debut against China.
Michael Bradley is also expected to play in the Under-20 World Cup, but this could be a nice platform for the youngster. Midfielder DaMarcus Beasley is the USA's top player with 12 goals followed by Carlos Boacnegra, Clint Dempsey and Ante Razov with six goals each.
The USA leads China as far as their matches are concerned with a decent 4-1-2 record.
China is also expected to play Real Salt Lake and Colorado Rapids from the MLS on their tour to the United States. The China team is hampered by the absence of captain Zheng Zhi, Shandong Luneng and Shanghai Shenhua. All three are competing in the East Asian Champions Cup and are hence unavailable for the USA game. China's national team soccer coach Zhu could be facing the axe if his team fails to make it to the semifinals in the upcoming Asia Cup. China suffered an embarrassing 1-0 defeat against Thailand in a friendly game last week and it appears the Chinese Football Association (CFA) needs good results in the Asia Cup; else the coach is on his way.
